‘Everything about the club is special’ – Star forward Awoniyi happy to be part of Union Berlin
Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi has said he’s ‘really happy’ to be playing for Union Berlin in the German Bundesliga, revealing that the club works to make everyone happy, which ‘is the most important thing in life.’
Awoniyi joined Union Berlin back in July on a permanent deal from Liverpool and has settled in quite well. The 24-year-old is the club’s leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season, with five goals in seven outings and says the club is where he wants to be.
“I think everything about the club is special,” Awoniyi told Bundesliga.com “As I said, in football, there is the business part, and there is the passion part. In this club, everything goes together.
“This is where I want to be. I’m really happy about being here at Union Berlin because as a team, they work together as a family, they work together to succeed, to make success, not only for the business part but to make everyone happy which is the most important thing in life.
“I think this is something special about them. With the fans also, everyone is doing everything together, and it’s something great to see in football,” the Nigerian, who scored Union’s 100th goal in the Bundesliga on Sunday, said.
Awoniyi scored a brace on Sunday to help Union to a 2–1 win against Mainz, where he was formerly on loan. The win shot the club into 7th place on the Bundesliga log – just four points behind table-toppers, Bayern Munich.
The striker has also received a call-up to the Super Eagles squad and will be part of the Nigerian team facing Central African Republic in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Thursday 7 October and Sunday 10 October.
