Red-hot Osimhen reveals reason behind superb goalscoring run for Napoli
Victor Osimhen says the love his gets from the city of Naples, the club and the fans is what makes him “fly.”
The 22-year-old Nigerian striker, who received a red card in his opening game of the season against Venezia, has scored seven goals in his last five matches for Napoli, who are top of the Serie A after six wins in as many matches.
“The love I enjoy is massive – the club, the city, the supporters and everyone connected to Napoli makes me fly,” Osimhen told BBC Sport Africa. “I play for an incredible club with a huge football history. I only have to focus and give my best all the time.
“I really want to get higher in the colours of Napoli. It was a childhood dream to become a professional footballer. I never knew this transfer or something this huge was going to happen.
“I just wanted to succeed in football, and do well for myself, take good care of my family and my few friends,” said the talented forward, who became the most expensive African footballer in history after his €70m move to Napoli from Lille in 2020.
Osimhen will seek to maintain his red-hot goalscoring form when Napoli visit Fiorentina for their next Serie A game this Sunday.
