Tottenham to fine Romero and Lo Celso for flying to Argentina without permission
Christian Romero and Giovanni Lo Celso were among players who were detained and deported by Brazilian authorities mid-game through Brazil and Argentina’s World Cup qualifying contest during the weekend.
Brazilian authorities said anyone who had been in the UK in the last 14 days must quarantine upon entering Brazil, however, the UK-based Argentine players failed to state that they were in the UK in the last 14 days.
Romero and Lo Celso, who also play for Tottenham, are now facing punishment from the club because they left England to play for Argentina without permission amid quarantine row.
Another player, Davinson Sanchez can expect punishment too after linking up with Colombia.
The players all left the UK despite the Premier League trying to stop stars from playing international football in red-list countries.
The Argentine FA announced on Sunday that Romero and Lo Celso would fly to Croatia for a 10-day quarantine before flying back to the UK after being released from the squad. They will miss Spurs’ trip to Crystal Palace this Saturday.
