Ronaldo’s Man Utd return not 100% rational, Wenger says
Former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United is “not 100% rational.”
Ronaldo rejoined Man United from Juventus a week ago in a stunning transfer move. The 36-year-old was with the Red Devils from 2003 to 2009 and has now returned for a second spell at the club. But Wenger says the Portuguese was re-signed for “more than just sporting reasons.”
“This is a love story that you want to see. He was re-signed for more than just sporting reasons, it’s also emotional,” the Arsenal coaching legend said.
“I think the decision is not 100% rational. Finding a balance in the team is a big challenge.”
Reports noted that Ronaldo was very close to joining United rivals, Manchester City, before the Red Devils sensationally took over the deal. The forward could be in line to make his second debut for United against Newcastle on 11 September.
