BREAKING NEWS: AS Monaco appoints Micheal Emenalo as sporting director

AS Monaco has announced the appointment of Michael Emenalo as Sports Director. He will be in charge of all the sports part, under the direction of Vadim Vasilyev, Vice-President and General Manager.

The former 52-year-old Nigerian international player was in Chelsea, where he became a well-respected figure over time.

In ten years with the Blues, during which the club won 3 league titles (2010, 2015, 2017), 3 French Cups (2009, 2010, 2012), the League Cup (2015), the League Europa (2013) and especially the Champions League (2012), Michael Emenalo made several missions before being promoted to Technical Director in 2011.

While in charge of recruitment, the leader notably piloted the arrivals of Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois or N’Golo Kanté.

During his tenure, he also set up a detection and performance system that made the Chelsea Academy one of the most competitive in Europe (double winner of the Youth League 2015, 2016).
Connoisseur of the French and European market, Michael Emenalo will now put all his expertise at the service of AS Monaco.

Vadim Vasilyev, Vice President General Manager said during the presentation of Emenalo: “I have been working for Michael Emenalo for a number of years and I am very happy to be able to count on him now in Monaco. I invested a lot in his coming.

His know-how in detection and recruitment, as well as the technical experience acquired in one of the most successful clubs in recent years, are the reasons that led us to present this ambitious challenge.
This appointment is another sign of our ambition and our desire to be as competitive as possible.

The 52-year-old former Nigerian international said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for me in a high-quality project.
AS Monaco has shown great progress for several seasons and I am convinced that the future will be just as ambitious. Vadim Vasilyev’s willingness to see me join AS Monaco was decisive and for me, the choice was natural after my decision to leave Chelsea.”

AS Monaco lost to Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend by 2-0 in a French league 1 fixture.
