Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso praised Nathan Tella for his quality after the German side beat Union Berlin 4-0 to return to the top of the Bundesliga on Sunday and backed the 24-year-old to succeed in the Super Eagles.

Tella, who recently got his first international call-up for Nigeria, completed the scoring, which was his first Bundesliga goal – as Leverkusen stretched their winning run to 12 games.

“Nathan is a player that has the ability to just do the right thing, be in the right place, he has the quality to be in the box and makes the right runs,” Alonso said, while answering a question from Oma Sports in a post-match interview.

“In Nigeria they have great strikers and maybe they could use good wingers. He’s a really nice guy with a strong mentality, he has a great attitude.”

Tella will now turn his attention to Nigeria’s Super Eagles as players go on international break.
