The Spanish La Liga has joined the Premier League in backing clubs who decide not to release South American players for international duty in September.
La Liga confirmed it will support clubs who choose not to release players who represent national teams in South America for next month’s fixtures over coronavirus concerns.
Earlier in the week, the English Premier League announced that all 20 clubs had agreed to stop their players travelling to countries on the United Kingdom’s red list amid concerns over enforced quarantine periods on their return.
Notably, the Egyptian Football Federation had released a statement stating Liverpool’s refusal to release Mohamed Salah for World Cup qualifying duty.
