Anderson, who played for Manchester United from 2007 to 2015, has been accused of laundering crypto through several countries.

The 33-year-old Brazilian is subject to a current investigation by the Rio Grande do Sul State Public Prosecutor’s office on the use of various cryptocurrencies for fraud and money laundering.

After a raid of his apartment was conducted, Anderson confirmed in a statement that he had been working as a crypto trader since 2019, but denied participation in any illegal activity as a trader.

A statement issued by the lawyer of the former midfielder reads: “We have not been summoned. There is an investigation underway and Anderson is going to prove that he was a victim, not an accomplice. That is his position.”

However, if found guilty, Anderson, who currently works as an assistant manager at Adana Demirspor in the Turkish Super League, could serve a lengthy time in jail.

The Brazilian won four Premier League titles, as well as the 2007–08 UEFA Champions League, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and two FA Community Shields during his time at Old Trafford.
