Afghan footballer falls to death from airplane in Kabul
Authorities in Afghanistan have confirmed that a young footballer fell to his death after trying to stow away on a US military plane which was departing Kabul airport.
The footballer was a 19-year-old named Zaki Anwari. He had played for Afghanistan’s national youth team.
In a statement on Facebook, Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports paid tribute to the young Anwari.
“May he rest in heaven and pray to God for his family, friends and sports colleagues,” the sports body said.
Several thousands have scrambled to Kabul’s airport since the Taliban’s recapture of Afghanistan, as Western countries attempt to evacuate their citizens.
According to local media reports, at least two people fell to their deaths after a plane took off in the country’s capital, Kabul. Also, the US air force disclosed that human remains were found in the landing gear of an aircraft after it landed in Qatar.
