Messi could make PSG debut against Reims on 29th August
Since arriving in Paris to a rapturous welcome, Leo Messi trained this Monday for the third time with Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine, who was presented in front of supporters before the match against Strasbourg alongside the rest of the summer signings, trained without any problems and continues working to be available as soon as possible to make his debut for his new team.
PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino already assured that the club and technical body will take it slow with Messi and that the priority of both is that “he feels good” and is “in the best possible conditions” for the first match wearing the blue shirt of his new side.
There have been rumours as to when the Argentine will play his first PSG match as there are suspicions over whether that will be before or after the upcoming international break.
But ‘Sky Sports’ is reporting with some level of certainty that the six-time Ballon D’or winner Monday will have his first minutes at his new club in the match away from home against Reims on 29th August.
Initially, it looked like his debut would be delayed as far as the encounter against Clermont on 12th September, but that clash could instead become the first which the Argentine starts, after a pre-season like no other.
Before joining PSG, Messi had no break after the end of the 2020/21 season and went on to play every game for Argentina in this summer’s Copa America, which they eventually won.
Afterwards, Messi went on holiday and as a consequence, couldn’t undergo a normal pre-season given the distractions over his Barcelona contract.
