Jadon Sancho Takes Ighalo’s Jersey Number,British Paper Calls Nigerian Flop
Manchester United’s new signing Jadon Sancho will spot the jersey number 25 for the Red Devils in the 2021/22 English Premier League season.
Ex-Super Eagles of Nigeria Striker Odion Ighalo was the last player to have won the number 25 jersey for Man Utd.
United got their man after a long pursuit of the 21-year-old forward from Borussia Dortmund but they are not overindulging Sancho by handing him the club’s iconic number 7 jersey which he was said to have preferred. The number 7 jersey will instead remain with veteran striker Edison Cavani who was in fine form for United last season.
Writing about The Red Devil’s decision to hand the number 25 jersey to Sancho, British sports tabloid Daily Star said:”the omens aren’t great (for Sancho) when taking a look back at some of its previous owners.”
The Daily Star in its headline wrote: “Jadon Sancho follows Man Utd’s flops Odion Ighalo and Nick Powell with shirt number.”
Ighalo scored five goals in 23 appearances for United during his one-year loan spell from January 2020 to January this year.
