History-maker Christian Pulisic Wants To Inspire The Next Generation Of American Footballers

Chelsea’s American winger Christian Pulisic made history yesterday as the first American international to play in the Champions League and the second to win it.

Chelsea sealed a 1-0 victory over Manchester City thanks to German attacker Kai Havertz. Shortly after Pulisic wore the USMNT hoodie , saying he wishes kids at home in America are inspired as he never dreamed of it

“I’m just so proud. I’m so proud to be here,” he told CBS Sports after the match.

“It’s been a difficult road for me, and I couldn’t imagine winning the Champions League ever in my life, and now I’m here.

“It’s just crazy. I can’t explain it, it’s just incredible. I have no words. I’m so proud. I’ve been hugging my family and friends – I’m just so proud.

“I hope there’s some kids watching back home in America thinking they can do the same.” the 22year old added.

Pulisic is highly revered in the US, he made his debut with the USMNT as a teenager and became the captain also as a teenager.

He made his debut in the Bundesliga as a 17year old under current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund and after him the Bundesliga has seen a surge in the number of American footballers, Gio Reyna, Josh Sargent, Tyler Adams, Christian Richards amongst others.

Bayern Munich defender Christian Richards said of Pulisic that he led the way for American youngsters in the German league and is an inspiration for many more future American stars.

Pulisic is the second American to receive a UCL gold medal, with Jovan Kirovski being part of the Borussia Dortmund squad in the 1997 win.
