Sergio Ramos Omitted As Spain Announce Euro2020 Squad
Real Madrid and Spain captain Sergio Ramos has been shockingly left out of Spain squad for the delayed Euro2020.
Ramos, who had an injury troubled season and played only seven games for Madrid in 2021, was omitted and replaced by Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte who switched allegiance to Spain weeks ago.
“It hasn’t been easy to leave him out of the squad. I spoke to him on the phone last night, it was really difficult. It’s a difficult decision. He hasn’t had a good run of games since January,” head coach Luis Enrique on Ramos’s omission.
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta was deservedly but unexpectedly called up while there is no space for out of favour goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Spain are drawn in Group E with Sweden, Slovakia and Poland.
