WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury says he has received a call from Saudi Arabia defense secretary who gave him assurances that his fight with Anthony Joshua will go ahead.

Fury and Joshua have long been teasing a fight. It looked like it would go ahead in 2020 but was called off. The proposed 2021 schedule too has been widely uncertain though Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearns confirmed two weeks ago that it will happen in Saudi Arabia.

Fury has now doubled up on the confirmation with a video posted on Twitter.

“I just got off the phone with Prince Khalid of Saudi Arabia, He told me this fight is 100% on Aug. 14, 2021.

All eyes on the world will be on the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And I cannot wait, repeat, cannot wait, to smash Anthony Joshua on the biggest stage of all time. This is going to be the biggest sporting event ever to grace the planet Earth.”

According to ESPN, the fight is worth $155m with about $75m for each boxer and the rest in expenses in what is the biggest fight between two British boxers in history.

Joshua won his last fight in Saudi Arabia, a rematch against Andy Ruiz Jnr to reclaim his belts after shockingly losing it a month earlier.
