Mahrez Isn’t Looking At Ballon d’Or Even If City Win The Champions League

Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez says he is fully focused on the Champions League final and ending his career at Manchester City and is not looking at staking a claim for the Ballon d’Or even if the Citizens win the Champions League.

The 30year old Algerian has two years left on his current City contract and is not thinking of a future away from Etihad; “My future? I feel very good at Man City. There is no desire to look elsewhere,” he told RMC, via Football365.

“I don’t know yet what my situation will be. But I’m happy at City and that’s where I want to be.”

There are reports of a potential return to France with Marseille but he denied anything of such. “No, that’s not something I tell myself. I want to end my career in England and Man City. So that’s not something that I am considering.”

Mahrez has scored 14 goals and assisted seven in all competition for City this season, winning the Premier League and Carabao Cup and could add the Champions League when they face Chelsea on May 29, and that could potentially draw him into the Ballon D’Or debate.

“I wouldn’t go so far as to say that. I will stay focused on this Champions League final. I am not here to believe myself to be a future Ballon d’Or. We will play the matches, try to make a difference with the team and then we will see.”

Mahrez will be representing Algeria at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon next year January to defend the title they won in Egypt in 2019.
