Former Chelsea Man Gaël Kakuta Wins 2021 Marc-Vivien Foé Award

Lens and Congolese forward Gael Kakuta has been named the winner if the 2021 Marc-Vivien Foé 2021 prize, a prize awarded to the player who is elected best African player in the French championship. 

The Congolese got 219 points to scoop the award ahead of Andy Delort (Montpellier / Algeria) who has 118 points, and Tino Kadewere (Olympique Lyon / Zimbabwe) with 70 points.

Kakuta has scored 11 goals and 5 assists to help Lens to sixth on the Ligue 1 table. He is the first Congolese to win the award and the oldest at 29 to win the award since inception in 2009. Former arsenal player Marouane Chamakh won the inaugural edition.

Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen won the 2020 award for an impressive season with Lille which earned an African record move to Napoli. Vincent Enyeama is the first Nigerian to win the award in 2014 also with Lille.

The Marc-Vivien Foé Prize, named after the Cameroonian footballer, is voted for by over 100 specialising in French and African football.
