Rohr Lists Okoye, Osimhen, Others in 31 Man Provisional Squad For Cameroon Friendly In Austria
Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has released a provisional squad list of 31 players for the upcoming international friendly game against African rivals Cameroon in Austria in June.
Headlining the list is Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye who has been impressive for Sparta Rotterdam this season and kept his 10th clean sheet and was named man of the match against Utrecht on Thursday.
Portugal-based Abraham Marcus is called for the first time whilr Enyimba FC’s forward Anayo Iwuala and goalkeeper John Noble keep their places. Abia Warriors Adekunle Adeleke drops out. There’s also a return for in form Crotone forward Simy Nwankwo.
Cameroon won three of their five AFCON titles at the expense of Nigeria in 1984, 1988 and 2000 but their last victory against Nigeria was in 1990.
The last meeting between the Eagles and the Indomitable Lions ended 3-2 in favour of the Super Eagles at the AFCON 2019 round of 16.
The Eagles beat Cameroon 4-0 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Uyo in September 2017 and drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture in Yaounde, which ensured qualification for Nigeria.
The provisional list of 31 will be whittled down to 23 before the Super Eagles fly to Vienna for the clash with perennial rivals Indomitable Lions. The game will take place at the Wiener Neustadt in the Austrian capital, Vienna on June 4, 8.30pm Austria time.
