It Would Have Been Hard To Leave Dortmund If Tuchel Had Stayed – Dembélé
Ousmane Dembélé left Borussia Dortmund in 2017 after just a year and joined Barcelona in a big money move reported to be €105m but the French forward has admitted it would have been hard had it been his “favourite manager” had remained at the club.
Tuchel was at Dortmund for two years and only worked with Dembélé for one year before both departed in 2017. Tuchel took over at PSG in May, three months before Dembélé was sold to Barcelona in August.
“Thomas Tuchel really convinced me, he is my favourite manager,” Dembélé told beIN Sports, via GFFN. “With Thomas Tuchel I played a bit more on the right side at the beginning of the season.
“Then I was moved more centrally, in the 10 position, sometimes even in the midfield three you see. He told me to stay a bit more central, have an espresso as he used to say to me, “the ball will come to you and then you will go.”
“It would have been hard to leave Dortmund if Tuchel had stayed,” he added.
Dembélé also named Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the person he has like the most in football
“Aubameyang welcomed me amazingly, even if it was quite tough with the German. Aubameyang really welcomed me well, he is the person that I have liked the most in football,” he said.
Dembélé has struggled with injuries at Barcelona making it difficult for him to play at the level he was playing at Dortmund, missing out totally on playing for Quique Setien who was in charge for eight months. But when he did play he showed glimpses of why Barcelona splashed huge money on him.
