I will choose Champions League trophies over Ballon d’Or – Neymar
Paris Saint-Germain are preparing for their second Champions League semi-final in as many years, and Neymar remains committed to his goal of delivering the famous trophy to the French club.
Despite long-held suggestions that Neymar’s main motivation was winning the Ballon d’Or, the Brazilian is on the cusp of extending his contract at the Parc des Princes and is in fine form heading into the two-legged tie against Manchester City.
“I’m very happy with the season PSG are having. I don’t even care about the Ballon d’Or, it’s not something I think about; I stopped thinking about it a long time ago,” Neymar explained during PSG’s pre-match press conference.
“I really don’t care. I want to win the Champions League, that makes a difference in my life, in my career. When I’m much older I will look back and see that I won one, two, three or even four Champions Leagues, that’s the most important thing.”
It’s a goal that aligns both the player himself and the Qatar hierarchy at PSG, with the main aim of the project being to lift the famous trophy.
“When I joined PSG, my goal was always to win the Champions League,” Neymar added.
“We reached the first final in the club’s history last season and we’re a team which is still developing. We have all the ingredients to win it, players and we’re a team, we work hard and the atmosphere is great.”
