Edo2020 National Sports Festival Risks Suspension Due To Lack of Funds
The local organising committee of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival has said the games will be stopped today, April 8, 2021 if the Federal Government does not fulfil its commitment of funds earlier agreed.
The Local Organising Committee released a statement through Project Manager, Media & Communications of Edo 2020, Ebomhiana Musa, citing lack of funds as the reason to stop the games which began on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
“The Local Organising Cittee, Edo2020 regrets to announce that it will end the games abruptly tomorrow, Thursday, April 8, 2021 for lack of funds,” the LOC statement reads.
“Rising from an emergency meeting this evening, the LOC says it has to take this hard decision due to lack of funds having expended its reserves to kick start the games.
“Regrettably, the FG is yet to redeem its pledge to support us as the host state financially for the cost of postponements. So, we are left with no option than to end the games at noon tomorrow.”
The games which were due to commence about a year ago was postponed multiple times owing to the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in the country and kicked off two days ago is now being threatened with a halt due to lack of funds to continue.
