Dortmund CEO Expresses Different Stance On Haaland And Sancho Futures
Borussia Dortmund houses two young world class talents who are two of the most sought after youngsters in world football, Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho.
Both players are continually attracting interests from top clubs across Europe and the club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has expressed different stances on both players from the club.
Haaland who joined 16 months ago reportedly has a release clause of €75m which will not be active until the end of the 2021/22 season but according to multiple reports the Black Yellow could sell if an offer in the region of €180m is received.
Last week his father Alf-Inge Haaland and agent, Mino Raiola are on a tour discussing with clubs. Last week they met with Spanish giants Barcelona and Madrid but Watzke insists there’s not plan to allow the 20year old leave.
“We do not have a parallel plan. We will discuss this with Erling, his father and his agent Mino Raiola,” Watzke told DAZN . “We also want him to be happy to stay with us, to score goals for BVB next year with conviction. There is no alternative plan.”
Sancho, 21, joined Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017 and was close to joining Manchester United last season, reportedly agreeing to personal terms but the Red Devils but the two clubs could not agree on a fee with Dortmund unwilling to lower their asking price of £108m.
Dortmund are willing to allow the England international leave after four seasons at the club if an “exceptional” offers are received, according to Watzke.
“Jadon Sancho has been with us much longer than Erling Haaland,” he said. We’ll have to speak to Jadon too. If there is an exceptional offer we will discuss it with the player and the agent, as always.”
Watzke also believes the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic on club finances could mean clubs are unable to spend big and they could keep their prizes stars.
“Nonetheless, I am very sure that the transfer market will only run to a very limited extent this summer,” he said. “Especially at the really big clubs you can see what kind of wounds coronavirus has inflicted, and they are not small ones that heal within two weeks.”
Dortmund are seven points behind the top four spot on the Bundesliga table with seven games to go, missing out on Champions League football next season and the financial impact of the pandemic could force sales of the two stars;
“I’m not getting involved in probabilities, it’s no good,” Watzke on if the club could be forced into emergency sales.
“No matter what happens this season and the next, we don’t have to apply for a loan, make any emergency sales or layoffs. We are under no pressure, which is a good starting position in this day and age.”
