PSG winger Kylian Mbappe had said it is tiring playing for a club in your home country after the French international received criticism for lacklustre performances in two international games.

Mbappe was silent in the 1-1 draw against Ukraine and missed a penalty in the 2-0 win over Kazakhstan, both of the two performances led to criticism from his countrymen for not turning up. Mbappe claims the criticism is not the same for players playing abroad.

“Of course it’s tiring, especially when you play for a club in your home country, when you give everything for your national team… At some point, it gets tiring, yes,” he told RTL, via Ligue 1.

“It’s different for players who play abroad, who only come back to France for the national team. I’m here all the time, so there’s a lot more talk. But I knew this context when I signed for Paris.”

Mbappe has spent all of his playing career in France. He began his youth career with AS Bondy and grew through the ranks of Monaco and joined Paris St Germain, first on loan in 2017 before making it permanent in 2018.

He is linked with a move away from PSG to England or Spain amidst uncertain future in Paris, with his current contract running out in 2022.

He is a full time France international. He is capped 41 times and has scored 16 goals. He was part of the France 2018 World Cup winning squad in Russia.
