Atletico play like a bottom table Premier League club – Joe Cole

Former Chelsea player Joe Cole is unimpressed with Atletico Madrid’s performance over two legs against Chelsea in the Champions League and has likened them to a top Championship or bottom table Premier League club.

Chelsea brushed aside Atletico Madrid 3-0 on aggregate to progress to the Champions League quarter finals for the first time in seven years and Cole has questioned the quality of his former side’s opponent.

“This is like Chelsea playing against, no disrespect, a top Championship side or a team at the bottom of the Premier League like a Fulham or a West Brom.” Cole said about the La Liga leaders on BT Sports.

Cole from the first leg hasn’t been a fan of the La Liga leaders and questioned the quality of the Spanish League if Atletico is one of the best they have to offer.

“They made it an uneventful night and didn’t give Atletico anything to bite on, tactically well done. If that’s the best La Liga has to offer, then it must be in trouble,” Cole said after the first leg in Romania.

“This team looked a shadow of themselves. I thought it was gonna be a tough one without N’Golo Kante but Chelsea just dominated. They controlled possession and were in charge of the game throughout. I was surprised Simeone didn’t switch it up earlier.”

Chelsea’s unbeaten run under Thomas Tuchel continued with the win over Atletico Madrid. It was Tuchel’s 13th game in charge, he has won nine, drew four and shut out the opponent 11 times.
