Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to Sweden squad after five years
AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been named in the Sweden national team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers, five years after he first announced his retirement after Euro 2016.
Ibrahimovic, 39, has been on an impressive form for AC Milan this season, contributing to 17 Serie A goals so far and has now been recalled to help the country.
He is the country’s record goalscorer with 62 goals in 116 international games. Sweden will play qualifier games against Georgia and Kosovo as well as a friend against Estonia.
“First and foremost, he is a very good football player, the best we have had in Sweden. It is of course very funny that he wants to come back. In addition to what he can contribute on the pitch, he has incredible experience and can contribute it to other players in the team.” head coach Janne Andersson said about Ibrahimovic’s return.
