Iheanacho dedicates hat trick to mothers all over the world
Leicester City and Nigerian forward has dedicated his hattrick in the 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United to mothers all over the world on International Mother’s Day.
Iheanacho opened the scoring in the 32nd minute and gave Leicester the advantage going into the second half. He scored the other two in the second half in between Ayoze Perez’s goal and Ethan Ampadu’s unfortunate own goal from a Jamie Vardy’s cross. The goal that sealed his hattrick was assisted by compatriot Wilfred Ndidi.
It’s Iheanacho’s first professional hattrick and he could not contain his joy after the game; “I don’t know how to express this, I’m over the moon and I’m delighted,” he said after the game.
“I have been waiting for this day to come. I have been working really hard. For this day to come, I’m really grateful to God, and for my teammates and manager for helping me to grow. I thank everyone in the club and I’m really happy for this day.
“I’m gonna use this opportunity to dedicate this hatrick to all the mothers in the world, they should keep taking care of us and I wish them happy mothers day.”
Iheanacho became the fifth Nigerian to score 3 or more goals in a match after Efan Efoku, Nwankwo Kanu, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Peter Odemwingie. He has been called up to the Super Eagles team for the upcoming qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
