Motsepe begins tenure as CAF president, Pinnick elected into FIFA Council

Dr Patrice Motsepe of South Africa has been elected as the new President of Confederation of African Football (CAF) after winning the election unopposed at the  43rd CAF General Assembly, meeting today, 12 March 2021 in Rabat, Morocco.

He becomes the seventh person, the first from an Anglophone African country  to occupy the position of CAF President and begins his four-year tenure   after Augustin Senghor, Ahmed Yahya and Jacques Anouma all withdrew from the race to be President.  

Dr. Motsepe, 59, is an accomplished South African businessman and philanthropist and no stranger to football. For almost two decades, he has been the President of a South African club, Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nigerian Football Federation President Amaju Melvin Pinnick was also elected as a member into the FIFA Council and automatically becomes one of the five Vice Presidents of CAF.
