Leipzig to pay Liverpool £1.3million as compensation for rescheduled match

RB Leipzig will pay Liverpool a compensation of up to £1.3m for failing to honour the second leg tie at Anfield due to state rules of 14 days compensation.

The second leg tie will also return to Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary where the second leg was played and Liverpool won 2-0 with goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

The compensation amounts to 10% of the entry fee for the compensation of £13m. “We cannot play the game in Liverpool due to the corona rules. So Liverpool had to look for a new venue. Therefore, as the visiting club, according to UEFA regulations, we are obliged to pay compensation.” Leipzig’s commercial director Florian Scholz told Bild.

According to Daily Mail, Leipzig will also pay a rental fee of £257,000 to secure the Puskas Arena. Stadiums in Italy, Cyprus, Romania and Netherlands were considered.

Juergen Klopp’s Liverpool are going through their worst league form in their history, having lost six straight home games in a row.
