A Bruno Fernandes penalty two minutes into the game after Gabriel Jesus tripped Anthony Martial and a Luke Shaw finish five minutes into the second half ended Manchester City’s 28 games unbeaten run.

Manchester City have been on a 28 games unbeaten run, 21 consecutive wins in all competitions but it was Manchester United who haven’t lost away since June 2020 that got the better of their neighbours.

Solskjær became the first Manchester United manager to win his first three away derby with another victory over Pep Guardiola, a repeat of last season’s outcome at the same venue.

The win moved Manchester United back up to second with 54 points, one above second placed Leicester City. Manchester City remain top of the table with an 11 points caution and face Southampton next on Wednesday.
