Pirlo hopeful of retaining Serie A title despite position on the table
Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo is focused on retaining the Serie A title for Juventus and believes there is still time to catch up with leaders Inter Milan who are 10 points ahead.
Juventus who have won the last nine Scudetto endured a frustrating 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona at the weekend but beloved there’s still time to catch up and win their 10th consecutive Scudetto.
“Our objective hasn’t changed. We are far from the top for now, because Inter and Milan won yesterday,” Pirlo told a news conference ahead of Juve’s league game against Spezia on Tuesday.
“But we’re not changing our objectives and we must think about winning game after game. We’re not looking at who is above us or beneath us in the standings, we’re only thinking about ourselves. There are a lot of games left to play and as long as there is time to catch up, we will be up there.”
Pirlo took over the Old Lady at the beginning of the season after Maurizio Sarri was sacked for a poor Champions League outing despite winning the league. He had been appointed the U23 coach and was yet to manage a game before he was promoted.
