Liverpool sold me cheaper than I was worth – Jonjo Shelvey

Former Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has opened up on his departure from Anfield in 2013 and admitted the Merseyside club sold him too cheap than he was worth at that time.

Shelvey broke into the Red’s first team as an 18year old in 2010 and went on loan at Blackpool but could not hold down a spot and eventually left the club to Swansea City for £5m, a fee Shelvey feels was too cheap.

“I would say I was quite cheap at the time, and I was going into a team that wanted to keep the ball, but going from Liverpool to Swansea was such a culture shock about the way things were run.” Shelvey said on the Studs Up podcast, quoted by HITC.

Shelvey joined Newcastle three years later in 2016 for £12m and has played over 100 games for the club. He helped the club win the EFL Championship and secured promotion to the Premier League in 2017.
