“Why did you bring me here?”, “betrayed” Filipe Luis questioned Mourinho on Chelsea move
Former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid full back Filipe Luis has revealed he felt betrayed by Mourinho during his one season stint at Chelsea and he questioned the special one on why he brought him to Stamford Bridge.
He joined Chelsea in the summer of 2014 and departed to return to Atletico Madrid due to lack of playing time with Mourinho preferring Cesar Azpilicueta at left back. He won the Premier League and League Cup in his one year at Chelsea.
“When I was on the bench for the first game of the season I knocked on Mourinho’s office door and said: ‘Why did you bring me here? Why didn’t you just leave me at Atletico?’,” he told The Mail.
“He was right. I wasn’t playing well. But I also think you have to be on the pitch to improve. I never regretted the move because I was at one of the biggest clubs in the world but everyone wants to play!
“At the time I felt betrayed for want of a better word. I did not want to work for Mourinho for another year. But it was not his fault. We won the final and I have the medal at home!”
Luis returned to Atletico Madrid where he had spent four seasons before joining Chelsea and spent another three seasons before returning to his native Brazil with Flamengo.
