David Alaba confirms Bayern Munich exit at the end of the season
Bayern Munich defender David Alaba has confirmed that he would leave the European treble winners at the end of the season, ending weeks of speculations regarding his future.
“I have made the decision to leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season and try something new. It obviously wasn’t an easy decision – I’ve been here for 13 years and the club means a lot to me.” Alaba told a news conference.
Alaba joined Bayern Munich II in 2009 and went on loan at TSG Hoffenheim in 2011 and has since held down a starting berth at the club, starting in multiple roles including left back, centre back, central midfield and wing.
Alaba represents Austria internationally and has 76 caps. He is linked to multiple clubs including Real Madrid and Chelsea but said he has not decided on his next destination but dropped a hint he could be moving to Spain; “Because we’ve always had Spanish players, it’s getting better and better. But overall it’s not that good.”
