I know I am good enough for England squad, says James Maddison
Leicester City playmaker James Maddison has laid a claim that he deserves a spot in the Three Lions squad led by Gareth Southgate.
Maddison has only a cap for the Three Lions against Montenegro in a 7-0 win in November 2019 and faces competition from Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, Phil Foden and other attacking midfielders in the star studded said.
“I know I am good enough. I just want that opportunity. Hopefully that is something I can strive towards. That is not a target I will hide. I want to be back in the England squad, simple as that,” Maddison told Football Focus.
“If that wasn’t my target there would be something wrong. I have come through the lower leagues and that feeling of representing my country against Montenegro was the best feeling ever.
“That is something I am very hungry for. That is why I am working every day, why I am staying out on the training pitch longer to help this Leicester team and ultimately break back into the England team.”
Competitions for places in the Three Lions squad are high with at least give players in each position and for Maddison to nail down a spot, he has to finish this season very strongly.
