Klopp loses mother, unable to attend funeral due to Covid-19

Liverpool head coach Jürgen Klopp’s mother Elisabeth has passed away aged 81 in Germany but he’s unable to attend due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

“She meant everything to me. She was a real mum in the best sense of the word,” Klopp told German newspaper Schwarzwaelder Bote.

“As a devout Christian, I know she is in a better place now. The fact that I can’t be at the funeral is due to the terrible times, but as soon as the circumstances allow, we will hold a wonderful commemoration that is appropriate to it.”

The UK government banned all flights from Germany due to new strains of coronavirus, a decision that has led to rescheduling of Liverpool’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig.
