John Terry tips Mason Mount for Chelsea and England captaincy
Chelsea legend and Aston Villa assistant manager John Terry has lauded youngster Mason Mount’s recent performances and tips him to be the captain for club and country in near future.
Mason Mount had his breakout Premier League season under former manager Frank Lampard whom he also played for in Lampard’s first managerial job at Derby County.
Mount was Lampard’s most used player which has led many to dub him Lampard’s son. Terry says the last of Chelsea’s academy products to break into the first team before Frank Lampard gave eight debuts to academy products, one of whom is Mason Mount.
“Mason Mount is 100 per cent future Chelsea captain. He’s been the best player at Chelsea this season to be honest,” Terry said on Instagram.
“He’s a great lad, trains unbelievably well, is Chelsea through and through and shows leadership qualities. In my mind he’ll be Chelsea and England captain.”
Mount is continuing his impressive form under new manager Thomas Tuchel. He scored the opening goal in the 2-1 win over Sheffield United.
