Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid to qualify for Champions League last-16

Liverpool defeated Atletico Madrid 2-0 at Anfield to progress to the knockout stage of this season’s Champions League with two games to spare.

The Reds have won their opening four matches of a Champions League season for the first time, and it’s also their fourth successive win in the Champions League for the first time since March 2009.

Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane scored inside the opening 21 minutes to keep Liverpool in front and it stayed so for the rest of the night. Atletico, though, were reduced to ten men after Felipe was shown a red for dissent in the 36th minute.

Elsewhere, Ajax also advanced to the last-16 with a 3-1 win over ten-man Dortmund.
