Selling Hakimi was a mistake by Madrid, says Ronaldo
Ronaldo Nazario is full of admiration for Inter right wing-back Achraf Hakimi, who he believes is one of the Nerazzurri’s best signings in the last decade.
The 22-year-old made the switch to Italy in a 40 million euro move from Real Madrid last summer, following a successful two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
“He’s an extraordinary player that Real Madrid have made a mistake in losing,” Ronaldo told La Gazzetta dello Sport when asked about Achraf.
“From time to time I think, ‘Ronnie, imagine you and Hakimi: we would have gone at a speed.’
“He is one of Inter’s best successes in the [transfer] market in the last ten years.”
Inter beat Juventus 2-0 in the Derby d’Italia at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Sunday but Ronaldo does not think it is a key match in terms of the destination of the title.
“With more than half the season still to play? No, it only applies to self-esteem, to understand how prepared you are to fight at that level,” Ronaldo responded.
“[But] don’t rule [AC] Milan out of the title race. They are surprising me; they play offensive football, with quality.”
Lautaro Martinez is one of the stars of this Inter team, and the Brazilian waxed lyrical about the 23-year-old.
“I like him because he is not afraid of anything,” Ronaldo noted.
“When he plays he is lethal: you get distracted for a moment and he doesn’t forgive you. Because he has a knack for football, and not many do. He’s pure striker.”
