I prefer Mourinho’s style to Guardiola’s, says Samuel Eto’o
Samuel Eto’o left Barcelona to Inter Milan unceremoniously after winning the treble under Pep Guardiola in 2009.
The deal saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic moved the other way. Eto’o went on to win another treble at Inter with Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho in 2010 forming a feared strike pair with Diego Milito.
Pep Guardiola, 49, and Jose Mourinho, 57, have arguably been the best managers of the last decade. Guardiola plays a fluid attacking football while Mourinho is more pragmatic in his approach.
Eto’o who enjoyed success under the two managers has now waded into the discussions about the two great tacticians.
“I am more friends with Jose Mourinho’s style, it’s a question of style, they each have their own way, I prefer Jose Mourinho,” Eto’o said in an interview with SPORTbible (via Marca)
“However, Pep is a top top coach, so I don’t think you can make a decision, but I can tell you that there is no other coach, no other manager, who will get to motivate his players as much as Jose Mourinho does, for me the treble with Jose is the special one.
“Now there are more coaches with their own style. Yet, in terms of motivating and getting the most out of their players, that is Jose Mourinho.” Eto’o added.
Guardiola and Mourinho now manage in the Premier league with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
