Gary Cahill lauds Victor Moses’ mentality, calls him a class guy
Gary Cahill and Victor Moses joined Chelsea in the winter and summer transfer windows of 2012 respectively and were on Chelsea’s books together until Cahill left for Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019.
The duo despite being Chelsea players together for seven years only spent two full seasons playing together, the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons under Italian manager Antonio Conte.
The 2017/18 season was Moses’ last active season in a Chelsea shirt though he’s still a Chelsea player. He was not rated by Maurizio Sarri, neither is he rated by current coach Frank Lampard and is currently on loan at Spartak Moscow.
The seasons Cahill and Moses spent together at Chelsea created fond memories between the two. They won three titles together, the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.
“Nothing but great memories of Victor. He was a massive part of the season when we won the league at Chelsea,” Cahill said of Moses in an exclusive interview with Crystal Palace.
“Victor is a class guy and a good friend. I actually sat next to him in the changing room for a couple of seasons. A wicked guy, such a laidback fella. Takes everything in his stride, nothing seems to bother him.
“He has that mentality where he seems half asleep but then when he goes out on the training pitch, he produces for you.”
Victor Moses, despite being a natural winger was deployed as a right wing back in Antonio Conte’s favoured 3-4-3 system and he excelled in the role in the 2016/17 title winning season.
“It was just a befitting role for him; it fit his game perfectly. He was a very fit lad and had the stamina to get up and down.”
“His game didn’t change much really. Defensively he could do a job but his attribute was carrying the ball forward. It was just the perfect role for him and he took to it very, very well.” Cahill added.
Cahill and Moses had difficult times at Chelsea after Conte’s departure, both falling out of favour with Sarri. Moses left on loan in January 2019 to Fenerbahce, while Cahill stayed till the end of the season, winning the Europa League before moving permanently to Crystal Palace.
