Carvajal may face ban for allegedly forcing yellow card

Dani Carvajal has found himself in his water after appearing to force a yellow card against Celta Vigo last Saturday.

The right-back slowly made his way off the pitch in the 83rd minute of Real Madrid’s match, with the score at 2-0, at which point the referee, Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, gave him a yellow card.

Zinedine Zidane stated that Carvajal was brought off due to some discomfort he was feeling, but the Competition Committee have opened a case to see if the defender purposely picked up a card that would see him miss the trip to Osasuna next weekend but then have a clean slate for the Supercopa de Espana.

The Spanish Football Federation’s rules have changed this season, as players can be punished with further punishment if they are caught forcing cards. There is currently an open case against Valencia’s Hugo Guillamon, who could have to miss a further game because of this.

Real Madrid do not expect any further punishment, so it seems as though Carvajal will be absent for just one game.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos was banned for two games by UEFA after admitting to forcing yellow card against Ajax in the Champions League in 2019.
