Reece James backs Lampard, calls for fans support during tough time
Chelsea right back Reece James has backed boss Frank Lampard as the club faces a poor run of results with another 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Aston Villa.
Chelsea went 17 games unbeaten before losing to Everton and have lost three, drawn one and won one in the last five games.
The Blues spent over £200m in the summer on transfers, bringing on Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy and that has put pressure on the club legend to deliver.
Reece James, one of the standout performers for Lampard this season missed the game with an hamstring injury and has now rallied for support for his manager.
“Another 2 points dropped tonight, it’s obviously tough to take but we will get there.
“I feel for Frank because a lot of people are putting him under pressure but what people aren’t remembering is that we are in a rebuild and the big names that have come in are just adapting to a new style of football, new language, new teammates and many other things going on in their new lives.
“It will come but what we can do as fans is support our players and coaching staff and stop giving them stick just when we don’t win 5-0 every week, come on guys seriously.
“There are really people out there that do not like Frank Lampard? Frank Lampard, the heart of Chelsea. Come on, get behind our club, we want to win the league, we want to win the Champions League.
“These things will come in the future if we play our part in supporting our players and welcoming the new ones. For sure I’m backing Frank all the way. Up the Chels, time will tell guys, get behind them.” Reece James posted on Instagram.
Chelsea’s next game is against Man City, a game that hangs in the balance after City’s last game against Everton was called off due to increased number of coronavirus cases at the club.
