A parliamentary panel on Thursday recommended putting athletes, coaches and support staff going for the 2021 Japan Olympics in the priority group for the COVID-19 vaccination process.
This will help foster preparations and ensure safe running of the largest gathering of athletes in the world in Tokyo, Japan next year.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics was postponed for a year to 2021 due to the coronavirus global pandemic, a decision Japan said cost $5bn.
Vaccines are being made by different health research organizations to combat the coronavirus with Pfizer’s having 95% effectiveness and already in circulation in some countries.
The Japan Olympics are slated to be held from July next year.
