The next match is always the important one – Jose Mourinho
By Oma Akatugba
In March 2020, ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig, Jose Mourinho spoke to OmaSports and said he has won everywhere he has managed and Tottenham would not be his only club without silverware.
OmaSports caught up with Mourinho again after Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Royal Antwerp in the final group game of the Europa League.
Tottenham are top of the English Premier League table and finished group winners in Europa League, in response to if he got the feeling if this is the year he’d win a trophy with Tottenham, the special one said:
“It’s not about feelings. As I say every week, we focus on the next match, if the next match is Europa League, Europa League is important. If the next match is Cup, Cup is important, if the next match is Premier League, Premier League is important.
“We play every match to win, sometimes we do and at times we don’t do it but intention is always to be positive.”
Clubs strive to finish top of their groups in UEFA club competitions to get a supposed easy draw in the knockout stages, Jose described it as not a massive difference.
“Today we got an objective, which is not a fundamental objective because the difference between finishing first or second in the draw is not a massive difference but maybe helps but we did our job by winning the match.”
Tottenham’s next game back in the league is an away trip to Selhurst Park to face city rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday.
