Karim Benzema to make history for Real Madrid in Gladbach clash

Real Madrid’s Wednesday night match against Borussia Monchengladbach won’t be just another game for Karim Benzema, as the French striker can match Roberto Carlos’ appearance tally of 527 official matches for the club.

The Brazilian’s 527 matches make him the foreigner with the most appearances for Los Blancos, with Benzema set to match him in this midweek game and then overtake the left-back soon after.

Roberto Carlos achieved this over his 11 seasons at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, during which he won 12 titles. The 2020/21 campaign is Benzema’s 12th at the club since arriving from Lyon in 2009.

Marcelo is also high on this ranking, currently on 515 appearances, but Benzema has overtaken him in recent years.

It’s not just appearances that Benzema has racked up over these years, as he’s also the fifth-top scorer in the club’s history with his 255 goals. Only Cristiano Ronaldo (451), Raul (323), Alfredo di Stefano (308) and Santillana (290) are ahead of him.
