Arsenal to pay Özil loyalty bonus if he stays beyond January

Arsenal are set to pay banished star Mesut Özil loyalty bonus if he stays at the club beyond the January transfer window, according to reports by The Mirror.

Özil signed a £350,000 per week contract in January 2018 after but has been kept out of the team since March. He was not registered for the team’s Premier League and Europa League squad for this season and manager Mikel Arteta insists it’s for football reasons.

Ozil has made it clear he wants to stay and fight for his place, does not want to leave in January and his £350,000-a-week contract includes loyalty bonuses and incentives for him staying.

That was originally put in to stop him leaving when he was a much sought after global superstar but now is one of the reasons why he is unlikely to leave before his contract expires in the summer.

Özil and his agent have said the former German international will lift the lid on the situation when his contract expires. He also believes he’d secure another move despite not playing.
