Spanish female soccer player, Paula Dapena said she’s getting death threats after she refused to take part in a minute silence for Diego Maradona. She did so in protest against domestic violence.
“A minute silence was not observed for the victims of domestic violence,” she said.
“It did not seem at all reasonable to me to celebrate a person like Maradona when there are videos showing him as he beats up his ex-wife. As a feminist, it did not seem reasonable to me to pay tribute to him.”
Maradona was caught on video in 2014 arguing with his then girlfriend and appearing to hit her. He denied the accusation and no charges were laid.
Paula Dapena said she and her team have been receiving threats on social media following her protest but they are also getting messages of support.
