Manchester United manager Ole Guna Solskjær has said managers can help players develop but may not significantly be able to improve players who are not ready.
The idea that managers improve players has become quite a widespread view amongst football fans on social media and as a result, a lot of managers especially in the premier league, have been criticised by fans and pundits for not being able to “improve” some of their players.
Manchester United manager, one of the many managers in the premier league who has gotten a lot of sticks for not improving players seemed to have a contrary opinion.
“We start up as coaches and end up sometimes as a manager. Your aim to get a good team is to get the maximum out of every player, individual players. So, of course, you take your time with every single one of them, you try to give them advice, guide them on the training pitch.”
“Deep down it’s always the player who decides how good he can become because they’ve all got talents, if they have the desire, the determination to learn and want to learn, the humility to learn, of course, we’re here. “I feel we also have to give them the time to develop, you have to give them the chance to play. We can have a long long discussion on individual players’ development. I’m here to help the players definitely but my job is to manage the club.”
