Chelsea and Sevilla produced fine displays against Rennes and Krasnodar respectively but had to wait late into the game to snatch winners that sent both teams into the knockout rounds.
The earlier kickoff in group E had the current Europa League holders Sevilla and Frank Lampard’s new look Chelsea winning 2-1 away from home. Both teams are tied on 10 points with Chelsea in first place with 8 goals difference.
Callum Hudson-Odoi opened the scoring for Chelsea in the first half after a fine work from Mason Mount. Seyrou Guirassy pulled one back in the second half before substitute Olivier Giroud snatched all three points for the Blues with a leaping header.
Sevilla had to rely on Munir El Haddadi’s last minute equaliser after Ivan Rakitic’s opener was cancelled by Wanderson.
Both teams still have a chance of topping the table as they fight for points in the remaining two games, one of which would see them face each other in the final match day.
