Barcelona have rested captain Lionel Messi and midfielder Frenkie De Jong ahead of their Champions League matchday four game away at Dynamo Kiev.

The two were missing in the squad lists earlier announced and Ronald Koeman explained their omission during his press conference.

“We have various players out due to injuries so we have decided not to take Messi and De Jong because our situation in the Champions League is quite comfortable with the nine points that we’ve got and these two players need to rest because they’ve played a lot of matches so we think this is a good moment to rest them.” Koeman said.

Barcelona is top of Group G with nine points in a group that also has Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus. They lost in La Liga at the weekend to Atletico Madrid and sit in 12th with 11 points from eight matches.
