West Ham and Three Lions midfielder Declan Rice has called being released by Chelsea at the age of 14 a step into responsibility.

Rice, 21, grew up through the Chelsea academy before being released at the age of 14, after which he moved to Chelsea’s London neighbors West Ham.

“I think that’s the making of me to be honest with you. I had to move to West Ham at 14, away from my family. I’m a family boy, love my mum and dad, live at home with them, and to leave them at 14 to play with people I don’t know from Monday to Friday, I think that shaped me into the person I am.” he told Sky Sport.

He has been an integral part of the club since he made his full debut against Southampton in August 2017 and is loving life with the Hammers.

“I had to start being responsible for myself, but look, I’ve come here and flourished. I’ve had three managers that have really looked after me, I’m loving life here.”

Several reports are linking Rice with a move back to Chelsea. According to reports, Frank Lampard sees him as the solution to his defensive problems. If the move materialises it will reunite Rice with his best friend Mason Mount.
